Telling Data Stories

Welcome to the ‘speculative data stories’ project site. Through the development of a new methodology – co-designing with speculative data stories – this project builds on and supports the work of the Higher Education After Surveillance network. The project contributes a new, digital approach to working with stakeholders in higher education to understand and shape data futures and surveillance practices in universities.

On this site you’ll find a digital resource for telling stories about possible surveillance futures. This resource was designed to help inform new approaches to interrupting, reducing or reconfiguring surveillance practices in higher education; including the development of a Higher Education Surveillance Observatory. The project team worked across education, design and creative writing fields. One of the team members is now leading two sister projects: Waste Stories and Stories of an Earth to Come, which are further developing related storytelling methods.
